  09 IS250 AWD hurting my right leg/hip :( How's the G37x?

If you guys recalled, about 4wks ago, I've traded in my 05 TSX for an 09 IS250 AWD. I decided on the IS over the G37x, 328/335xi, TL w/AWD, and the WRX. Thought the IS had the most comfy front seats of the bunch, so that was my tipping point. What a crock that was.

I was happy at first and enjoying the nice ride and handling, until my right leg started to hurt.

Didn't notice it that much at first, but there is a stupid BUMP protruding out the driver's side is giving me fits! I simply cannot rest my right left in a proper straight ergonomic manner. My right simply cannot straighten out, and is what I liken a repetitive stress disorder. WTF?? I gather this BUMP is part of the AWD transmission. Passenger's side if fine. I didn't pay much attention to this at first, but now realize that Infiniti's G37x's "bump" is more spread out between drivers/passengers middle console. Isn't that a better place??

My TSX was given my lower back pain b/c of insufficient lumbar support; the IS has great lumbar support and my lower back no longer hurts, but now my right leg and hip is unbelievably sore. I can't drive longer than but a few minutes before the pain starts.

This "BUMP" is getting beyond annoying, to the point of causing repetitive stress disorder. It's not something one would pay mind at first during the initial viewing and test drive. But repeated drives and long commutes reveals a major ergonomic design FLAW.

Sounds funny I admit, what can a little bump can do right? But when the right leg and hip becomes sore and painful, and starts to spasm, I become very annoyed and angry, esp when I pay around $40k for a luxury car. Why the hell did I pay that much $$ and now am sick when I even think of driving the car???

Okay, so I came back from the dealership for the 1k mile service. I complain to the service guy and sales manager about the "bump." They claim they have never heard of such a thing.

Service guy says there's nothing they can do to change the design. Obviously... I ask them to smash the bump away; they decline my request (I figure I try.)

Sales guy/manager also deny ever hearing anything of this sort. Of course they tell me I can trade it in for a RWD 250 or 350, and even suggest I trade it in for a GS AWD. I am set on AWD, so I take a look at the GS, and boom, same annoying BUMP. What the hell??? So I leave the Lexus dealership annoyed. Lexus did tell me to adjust my seating position.

I then go to Infiniti, so curious again to see if the G37x sedan has the same annoying bump. Lol and behold, there is a very tiny protuberance on the driver's side, and a slightly larger one on the passenger's side, but FAR more acceptable and comfortable. I drove the G37x again, and am able to rest my foot/heel/leg. Infiniti claims Toyota did not redesign the AWD vehicle, and simply moved the steering wheel from the right to the left to accommodate US drivers; says it costs too much to redesign the AWD casing properly. I'm tending to believe Infiniti on this one.

Now Infiniti offers to buy my 250 and sell me a 09 G37x for $11k. Dam, what a rip. One literally looses $10k just driving off a new car off the lot. Though Infiniti does not have the name or panache of Lexus, I'm beginning to see that the G37x is a superior car with a overall better design.

Lexus. Luxury and comfort my a$$... Right now I feel the IS is built for people 5'5" and under. Heck my salesperson is barely 5'.

To be honest, today I have adjusted the seat quite a bit. My right leg/heel/hip seemed a little better, but time will tell very quickly. I'm very tempted to trash this 250 and get a G37x. What a poor financial mistake this Lexus was...

I don't think I'm that tall. I'm 5'11"

How tall are you G37x drivers out there? Do you guys have any issues with the AWD interior wrt driver's/passenger's foot/heel/hip comfort?

Do it Do it Do it

Why would you ever buy a is250 over a g37x?

I could see you buying the is350 but not the 250. It has 204 hp vs 330ish... wtf

The Lexus has a smallish interior compared to the G. The G sport has like 19 way adjustable seats with massage, a robotic chef, stock portfolio manager and Nuclear fallout protection. That second one may be made up, but The seats are very adjustable. That is definitely something I have to like about a car. Where I'll be sitting. I give the seats in my G35 a 7/10. My G20 had more supportive, comfortable seats. 9/10 for me. The 05 G got better seats. I give them an 8. The GTR seats are a perfect 10

The G sedans I've been in I've never had a problem with room/comfort. And if I can fit in a G coupe then most anyone should be good in a G sedan.

Aye my friend, not all about power. I need the AWD for the snowy winters.
The 350 does not come in AWD.

But I agree, the 250 is a puny compared to the G. The G (and 350) has awesome power.

Interesting.hmm...

I drove the 250 and 350 when I was shoping for car. Also drove the 350 extended drive for about 1k miles when I was going to the states(work related). My biggest complain was with it being too soft. I drove the G many times for few hours at the time with no issue. I'll be on the way to put 5k miles in the car in a week or so starts this weekend.

When I was car shoping I was looking for more sporty ride with some luxury feel. G was giving me that. All the Lexus line were too soft. Never tried the is-f tho.

I agree with Poyzi. The G feels a lot bigger then the 250 and the seats are verry well adjustable. My only complain was with the 250 tho is the power. Wasn't enough.

Maybe you are looking at the wrong cars. If you have back problems you better off with the SUV/crossover,etc. Have you tried any? Some gives you the good performance also with the comfort of the SUV.

BTW I am 5'9".

I'm a tad under 5'11" Coming from the TSX, initially I thought the TSX and IS had fairly comparable body lengths/widths. Unless I'm wrong, the TSX, IS, G, and 3 series are in the category "compact/entry level luxury sedans."

In retrospect I believe the IS is smaller than the TSX, and that in terms of size G>3 series>TSX>IS.

Interesting you brought up the SUV. My wife's RX fits just fine (can't drive it like a sports sedan though I will keep an open mind, maybe the MDX would have been a better option.

I made a few adjustments to my seat prior to my morning' commute, so I'll see how my leg feels. Doesn't feel as bad, but is still sore/aches as I type.

This is just ridiculous.

You should try an Fx 45 or Fx 50s or Fx 35. They give you a G that is a little more taller

If it were up to me, I'd take an FX50 over any Infiniti SUV, but I cant knock the EX. it is super comfy and fun to drive. Its just a well built vehicle...

Maybe an Ex is the way to go for you? I think you can get one with an AWD

Have you tried to lower the pressure in the tires a bit? Also would look into chaging tires. Tires have a lot to do with comfort. I usually run them 2-3 psi higher in winter for better handling and man it changes the character of the ride a lot.

Maybe you can go to a tire shop and they can put 4 more comfy tires so you can test them out. It eorth a try before you end up -11k.

Just an opinion. Also the EX drives close to same but less rear room and little more restricted on the traction controll than the G. I'd take EX over the MDX. Obviously you rather sacrifice the power over the comfort. So I won't sggest you the FX50. Maybe FX35 if the EX35 not suitable for you.

I feel your pain.

I more or less came to the same conclusion back in December 2005 when I was looking to replace my 92 Lexus ES300 5 speed.

The IS 250 was uncomfortable. The G35 also felt more comfortable than the Acura TL. Plus I prefer rear wheel drive.

On three or four trips driving from NJ to Florida I can tell you that driving 600 miles over 12 hours I've never experienced any discomfort driving my G

My $.02

Trade it in, suck it up as lessons learned. Life is too short

Try to drive the best deal you can with Infiniti. Make an appointment to see the sales manager in multiple dealerships to try and get the best deal.

Perhaps they can create a better deal with Lexus than you can being you only have 1k miles?

I'm 6'2 and have had a G37X for a couple of months. I bought it over the competition mainly because of the comfortable seats, OK actually after the horsepower and 7 speed trans the seats were the main reason. I never noticed any hump.

I have a home office, so the driving pattern is sporatic, but I just took it on a 180 mile round trip yesterday in great comfort and no stops except at the 90 mile destination point. I would price the G at several dealers, they can be quite far apart on price.

I find it real comfortable so far. I'm 5'6" and my husband, who just had lower back surgery and quite uncomfortable lately is actually very comfortable in the passenger seat. He's 5'9". He has had a lot of hip and leg pain before the surgery. He's much more comfortable in the '09 G37X than he was in the seats of my '04 Coupe!!
