Well hopefully this is the right section if not im sorry
Hey everyone dropping by and saying whats up
I saw a couple g35's at extreme autofest here in reno this weekend and they definently caught my attention. I'm going to claim ignorance i knew about them when they started coming out but was building a rock crawler and a honda. after the honda, came a mustang cobra, now have a couple trucks no cars and miss them a lot!!
So i was thinking about getting me a g35 coupe?! any recomendation. plans would be suble exterior mods. ICE, and lots of enginge add ons. twin turbos, full exhaust, intake, etc what do you guys think?
and good choice if you like the coupe i would go with 05-07 they are a very good car i love mine for mods thats all up to you and how crazy you want to go. simple mods pop chargers exh grounding wires z tubes all of those are realitve inexpensive..
2005 G35 COUPE NAVI SPORT PACK W/O SPOILER 19in WHEELS
Basically get the newest you can afford. Throw a dollar amount out there to us regarding how much you want to spend. Where you would like to spend it first (engine or cosmetics) and we'll gladly help you piece together a beast.
Glad to have you onboard!

JK, I like Canada. They are like America's laid back brother wondering why we seem to be pissed off all the time.

give me some direction
Thanks all Travis
I think one way to look at this is what is the cost of the end product. For example I am looking at maybe getting a vette. For less than the cost of a coupe with enough engine mods to get you to the 400+ hp range (not even counting suspension, etc.) you can easily purchase a vette that is much lighter and probably would be more reliable stock then the G35 would be highly modified.
Of course you would have a vette like many other vettes. With the G35 you would have something unique. Just for info if you do go for a vette, then if manual I would get a 2005 or newer, if auto 2006 or newer.
If you are planning to build the engine and go TT then I would recommend getting a 2005-2007 REVUP (manual tranny) for the coupe, 2005-2006 for the sedan. If you do the work yourself you can do it relatively cheap and much less than you would pay for a vette like Perry is planning to do. As far as reliability, that mostly comes down to the build and the tune.
We'd love to help guide you along if you pull the trigger.

It does come down to the tune and of course the year of the machines. In my case my 08 xs can be sold and a 2006 vette with like miles can be purchased very close to straight across. No Music box but comes with the nav and Bose sound system, two roofs, and serious wheels, tires, and brakes. No AWD of course.
But I stand by the statement that it is the cheaper way to go than modding a G to try to get in the same performance area. I also stand by my statement that when in to the same performance area the vette would probably be more reliable since it would be stock and less stressed. Depending on review the auto is slightly slower by as much as 2/10s to sixty to slightly faster. So basically I believe these numbers are good for either one. Current prices for less than 20k miles appear to be in the mid 30s like the one I test drove. I recommend the 2005 or newer for manual to take advantage of some performance features and the 2006 or newer for auto to get the 6 speed auto.
Stock:
2006 Chevrolet Corvette Base/Tested Price $44,490/$56,570 Drivetrain Front engine, RWD, Engine 6.0L/400-hp/ 400 lb-ft OHV V-8 Transmission 6-speed automatic Curb weight (dist f/r) 3284 lb (51/49 %) Length x width x height 174.6 x 72.6 x 49.0 in 0-60 mph 4.6 sec Quarter Mile 13.0 sec @ 112.2 mph Epa City/Hwy Fuel Econ 17 / 27 mpg
So even if stepping back a couple of years to a 2006 coupe, how much of an investment in cash would you have to put out to get this level of performance. In my case if I do the trade I need to probably consider getting an older Jeep or other AWD when I do need it. I would miss the Music Box, not a whole lot of perceived benefits one way or the other as far as stock navs.
Now for me the real issue for these differences is I may be better off going with the stock radio and doing sound upgrades, possibly including a car puter on the vette to gain back what I would have lost. The AWD issue is still there but for performance, well I think the vette has that covered. It is a little crude in some areas, a little bit noisy, but man does it go and handle well in its stock form.
Again, the modded G Coupe would have a certain unique factor that would be hard to over come. If I was going to do this I would start possible with the 09 Coupe AWD and go from there avoiding whatever issues that could play into voiding the warranty. That is if one really cares about this.
i like all the input and thanks for the direction to head, sounds like ill start looking for a 05-07 manual coupe
chevy isnt my thing, i do like the stingray convertibles but in my time ive owned a - i dont remeber what year but a dodge spirit - (not sprint -spirit) - total grandma car and thats the first one i had needless to say no dates til i upgraded 90 crx 94 dodge stealth 94? mustang 4 cyl - TOTAL DOG 98 neon dohc 95 eclipse GSX 99 cobra triple black vert 79 ford bronco rock crawler -still have 79 f-250 -trailer puller -still have 79 f-100 02 dakota-- still have and my wife has an 06 escape - still have
no chevy's
if we were to build another domestic i would do a 99 cobra again, my wife wants a 90 foxbody mildly built. We have car shows every weekend and sometimes in the middle of the week we have hot august nights, we have our own raceway with drag strip, road coarse and circle track, we just finished "w.e.rock" at the sands, all the smaller casino's have car shows all the time, we have an old time diner that does car shows all the time. ..... getting to my point is just cause chevy isnt for me doesnt mean i dont go drool over them almost every day in Reno we have cars coming through everyweek for something or other and i love em all ... i just want to be a little different in this town locals either own a mustang, STI, EVO 7,8,9, or a wanna be honda - makes a lot noise but doesnt go very far.. so i wanna be a little different and do up a Infiniti..
what im thinking is 3 10' subs, amp, cap, equalizer. upgraded speakers from stock locations. Flip out DVD monitor with ipod hook up. nav/imbeded rear view mirror, maybe swap the front seats. ext. H.i.d. blue headlight bulbs, front chin spoiler, different hood. small rear spoiler. under body neon. paint brake compnents ebc/brake pads engine. intake, Twin t"s exhaust, tune. - - - - - so to those that have done this what else should go with this?? i just want it to look subltle when you look at it from way behind me
so i wanna be a little different and do up a Infinity..
Dont you mean an Infiniti? Unless you mean you want to do up your Infinity sound system... then thats awesome. You haven't been into chevy's, guess its because you're a ford guy. and mopar guy. Also, insurance, not to mention luxury, will be better in a G than in an Evo or STI. :D

I miss the 67 Mustang fastback I had. Needed a lot of work but body was sound when I got rid of it about 1977.
I always thought about another one or maybe a 66 fastback modified with an extended front end kit which extends the front wheel position about 8 inches without looking aftermarket. You just know it is different but not readily apparant if you don't know older Mustangs. This is one of those cases of making a better car at the sacrifice modding a classic body.
